Andrew Cannestra, MD, PhD, Neurosurgeon

An expert in spinal surgery, minimally invasive neurosurgery, artificial disk replacement, Gamma Knife radiosurgery and the treatment of complex tumors, Dr. Cannestra comes to Jacksonville from Los Angeles. He received his medical degree and neuroscience doctorate degree from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), where he completed his residency in neurosurgery. He completed fellowships in spine surgery at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and minimally invasive spine surgery at Santa Monica Comprehensive Spine Surgery in California.

Dr. Cannestra joins Lyerly neurosurgeons Javier Garcia-Bengochea, MD, and Paulo Monteiro, MD in offering a full range of cutting-edge surgical services for the brain, spine and nervous system. Dr. Garcia-Bengochea is a nationally and internationally recognized pioneer in minimally invasive spinal surgery, and Dr. Monteiro, chief of neurosurgery at Baptist Medical Center Downtown, also specializes in computerassisted neurosurgical procedures.
