LYERLY PHYSIATRY DIVISION
The Physiatry Division was added to the practice in August of 2010. Our two Physiatrists, Luiz M Massa, M.D. and Arthur D. Kalman, D.O. are Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physicians. They provide quick appointment access to our referred patients. In addition “Back Pain” patients sent by referring physicians will be worked up and a determination is made about whether they are surgical candidates or are in need of conservative therapy. This capability allows the referring physician to handoff the patient to Lyerly where their neurosurgical care will be given in a “One Stop Shop”.
Since 85% of people have back pain in their lifetime, the need for quick assessment and treatment is appreciated by patients. The Physiatry Division in Lyerly treats back pain conservatively with physical therapy, medications, epidural injections, and exercise. The physiatrist’s goal is to enhance and restore functional ability of life to those who suffer from musculoskeletal conditions as well as those who have spinal cord and brain injury.
